It is the soil-dwelling caterpillar of the swift moth which cause the trouble to your plants rather than the moth.
Identifying Features[edit | edit source]
The caterpillar will move backwards when disturbed. Carrot and parsnip roots are hollowed out.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
None. Burn affected roots and destroy caterpillars.
Prevention[edit | edit source]
Cultivate thoroughly before planting and hoe regularly to disturb the soil. Eradicate nearby weeds.
