Early purple sprouting is a variety of broccoli. It is a very hardy, cold tolerant vegetable that produces a heavy crop of purple spears early in the season.

Growing[edit | edit source]

Sowing[edit | edit source]

Sow in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 25cm (10in) apart. Cover lightly with 1.5cn (½in) of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear in 14-21 days.[1]

Transplanting[edit | edit source]

When 7.5-10cm (3-4in) tall; transplant to final positions with 60cm (2ft) between plant rows. Firm plants in well.[1]

Aftercare[edit | edit source]

Keep moist and weed free.[1]

Harvest[edit | edit source]

February to May. Cut shoots when 15cm (6in) long. Pick young shoots regularly to encourage further cropping.[1]
