Berbere (Pronounced 'bear-berai'), this rare Ethiopian variety of chilli produces lots of 15cm (6in) long by 2cm (¾in) wide pendant shaped pods over a long period. The pods have a slight swelling in the middle and mature from green to a deep red approximately 85 days after transplanting. These chillies have a rich smokey flavour and aroma, and make excellent chilli powder when dried and ground.[1]
